Public Involvement

The Illinois Department of Transportation encourages public participation for the IL 18 River Bridge Project.  The Department has received input from stakeholders of communities, agencies, businesses, and the general public.  Several activities provided opportunities for public input:

  • Newsletters have been posted on this website under Reports / Documents to inform interested individuals.

  • Two open house public informational meetings were held for the project.  At these meetings, the IDOT Study Team displayed exhibits, provided information, and received input on the study.

  • A public hearing was held on February 28, 2024 to inform the public of the study findings and to gather input on the proposal.

  • A Community Advisory Group was created to provide input to the IDOT Study Team and to facilitate two-way communication between IDOT and the stakeholders of the project.

  • A Community Context Audit was used by members of the public to complete and submit to IDOT in order to provide input on the valued community elements in the study area.

  • As part of the public involvement process, IDOT established an Aesthetics Focus Group (AFG) with the goal to provide collaborative aesthetics recommendations that would be incorporated into an Aesthetics Master Plan. The AFG was comprised of residents and officials of Henry, staff of IDOT, and staff of IDOT’s consultant engineer project team. The results from the focus group are summarized in an IL 18 River Bridge Project Aesthetic Master Plan Report.

  • This website provides an additional mechanism to send comments to and ask questions of the IDOT Study Team here.
